Obituary of Arthur "Art" Atkinson

ATKINSON: Arthur "Art" Atkinson passed away peacefully at the Assiniboine Centre on Thursday, February 1, 2018. Art was born in Souris, MB on June 7, 1934. At the age of 16, Art started working for Manitoba Telephone System and continued for 41 years. In 1962, he married Bernice Fisher of Alexander, MB and they settled in Brandon where they raised three children. In retirement, Art enjoyed going back to his hometown area to help cousin Don with harvest. He also enjoyed driving the Telephone Pioneer truck in parades. He took pleasure in meeting with his former co-workers on a regular basis for coffee or breakfast. Art also rarely missed his daily walk. Art was predeceased by his parents Wilfred and Mae and sister, Doreen. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Bernice (Ber), sons Brian (Betty), Gary (Sandra) and daughter Cindy (Shawn). His pride and joy, grandchildren Kristin, Jayme, Michael and Kendra. He will also be missed by sister-in-law Shirley Pederson and brother-in-law Calvin (Joan) Fisher and nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Art's Life will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Harvey Hurren officiating.
