Obituary of Flora Marie-Therese Aquin

AQUIN: Flora Marie-Therese Aquin (née Lewis), of Brandon, MB, passed away peacefully with family by her side at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Monday, February 5, 2018 at the age of 91 years. Flora was born on October 22, 1926 in British India to parents Charles and Priscilla Lewis. Her father was a Construction Officer for Posts and Telegraphs and later as a Subdivisional Officer. The family moved to various towns, as her father was often transferred. Her mother was a homemaker. Flora attended Loreto Schools for the elementary grades; Notre Dame de Missions for High School and University where she completed her Bachelor of Arts. Flora went on to become a Registered Nurse in India, specializing in O.R., Midwifery and Obstetrics. She administered strep injections to patients in Mother Teresa's Clinic in Calcutta. She completed a course in Plastic Surgery in Sussex, England and worked as an S.R.N in England and Wales. After arriving in Canada, she worked at the Ninette Sanatorium and the Sioux Lookout General as an M.A.R.N and R.N.A.O. Once her children were older, she worked at the Country Club at C.F.B. Shilo and at the Glen Lea Golf Course in hospitality roles. Flora was very committed to the Catholic Women's League, as an active member for over 35 years. She also volunteered at Fairview Personal Care Home for over 15 years. She loved to be in the garden, bake, knit and crochet; her greatest joy was in being a loving mother and wife. Flora was predeceased by her parents Charles Anthony Lewis and Priscilla Josephine McBean; her daughter Priscilla-Anne Aquin; three brothers: Stanley; George; Bertie and five sisters: Irene; Maude; Mary; Joyce (Sr. Priscilla) and Cynthia. Flora is survived by her husband Herman Aquin; sons: Charles (Eleni) and Edward (Julie) and sisters Marjorie Walsh and Phyllis Lewis. Prayers will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, 327-4th Street, on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Kelly Wilson as Celebrant. Pallbearers will be: Glen Gross; Neil Hemauer; Ken Aquin; Randy Brown; Peter Aquin; Rob Frenette. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Aquin and Ken McKenzie-Cochrane. Interment will follow at the Dunrea Cemetery at a later date. Donations in memory of Flora may be made to the Mother Teresa's Order, Missionaries of Charity, 167 Aikins Street, Winnipeg, MB, R2W 0A1.
