Obituary of Florence Victoria Bancur

BANCUR: Florence (Flora) Victoria Bancur (nee Cieckiewicz). Florence Victoria Bancur passed away peacefully at Hillcrest Place on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the age of 92 years. A Funeral Service was held at Brockie Donovan Chapel on Friday, February 23, 2018 with Fr. Kelly Wilson of St. Augustine's Church officiating. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Florence was born in Brandon, MB to Lena and Andrew Cieckiewicz on December 13, 1925. She attended Fleming School and Earl Oxford High School. After finishing high school, Florence moved out East working in Hamilton and Fort Erie at various jobs: an airplane factory during WW II, a hospital nursery and a bakery. On her return to Brandon, she met and married Michael Bancur on January 19, 1946. They had three children, Michael Jr. who died at birth; Virginia Ann and David Michael. Florence worked at the Metropolitan and Co-Op Stores as head of the children's department and at dress shops before she retired. Michael and Florence spent their retirement travelling with their trailer around Canada and down into the U.S. She enjoyed baking, sewing, dancing at parties and socializing. She was a member of Seniors for Seniors and Naomi Rebecca's Lodge #6. Florence lost Michael in 1998. She is also pre-deceased by her brothers Frank Siskewich, Paul Gracey, William Siskawich, and her sisters Virginia Todhunter, Lillian Johnson, Stella Mykes, and Mary Szalinsky. She is survived by her daughter Virginia, son David, brother John Sisk and sisters-in-law Rogene Sisk and Nell Siskewich, along with nephews and nieces across Canada.
