Obituary of William "Bill" Bayne

BAYNE: It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of William (Bill) Ernest Bayne on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. Bill was born June 3rd, 1922 to parents William and Lulu (Garbutt) Bayne from the Rapid City district. When Bill was a young man, his parents moved to Brandon where they started a trucking business called Bayne and Sons with Bill and his younger brother Donald. Bill felt the call to duty and in September of 1942 he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force as an airframe mechanic. After his initial training in Winnipeg, Bill was transferred to St. Thomas, Ontario. Bill married his high school sweetheart, Ada Louise Howick in 1943, while serving in St. Thomas. They were later transferred to the Rivers Air Base in Manitoba, where their daughter, Gail Louise, was born in 1944. Bill was discharged from the RCAF in 1945, and went into the trucking business again; selling his trucks to and working for Nels Unicume in the furniture moving business. In 1949, son Barrie Franklin was born in Brandon. Bill became part owner of the company and built it into the Unicume-Lesley-Armstong Moving group, agents for Allied Van Lines, with initial offices in Brandon, Portage la Prairie, Dauphin and Winnipeg. Bill was predeceased by wife Ada, his parents and younger brother Donald. Left to mourn his loss are his daughter Gail (Richard) Martinook, son Barrie (Andrea) Bayne, grandsons Jason (Kendra McFadden) Bayne of Montreal and Mark (Nicole Snidal) Bayne of Brandon along with great grandchildren Oliver and Audrey (Montreal), Soren and Brynja (Brandon). A Memorial Service will be held for Bill at Brockie Donovan Funeral Chapel, 332 8th Street, Brandon, MB on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. A private family burial will take place at the Brandon Cemetery.
