Obituary of Edna Elsie Cameron

CAMERON: It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother Edna Cameron (nee Bolton) at the Palliative Care Unit in the Assiniboine Centre on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the age of 86 years. Her last day was spent peacefully surrounded by many of her family members. Mom was born in 1931 in Birtle Municipality. She married Kenneth in 1947 and they were married 54 years prior to his passing in 2001. They raised six children on their family farm and moved to Rossburn in 1973. Mom worked as a Nurse's Aide at the Rossburn District Hospital for 25 years and then worked as a Home Care/Palliative Worker for numerous years after that. Mom was always a caregiver right up to the time of her passing and she gave freely of herself and her time. She moved to Brandon in 2011 and remained there until her passing. Mom had many talents, she was an amazing cook and she grew a huge garden and canned and froze her produce. She was not big on flowers; if you couldn't eat it, there was not much point in growing it. She made awesome pies, buns, canned chicken and homemade perogies….and the list goes on. Mom enjoyed quilting and made sure everyone in her family had a quilt she had made. She knit, crocheted and embroidered. Her crocheted afghans were always in demand and she was still working on one before she was hospitalized. Mom and Dad loved camping, fishing and spending time at the lake. They enjoyed playing cribbage and having card nights with their siblings. Lunch was the high point when Mom laid out a spread of homemade buns, canned chicken, homemade pickles and a chocolate cake. Mom is survived by daughter-in-law Pauline, and her five remaining children, Glenda [Bruce], Lynn, Bud, Gwen [Russ], Karen [Rick], 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Harold Bolton (Gay), her sister-in-law Doris Bolton and her brother-in-law Bobby Daye and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mom was predeceased by her husband Kenneth, her son Floyd and her parents Bill Bolton and Elvie Cameron, her brother Cliff and her sister Mamie (Al) along with many in-laws. The family wishes to thank the 3rd floor staff at Brandon General Hospital and the Palliative Care Unit at the Assiniboine Centre. In lieu of flowers, if you so wish, please make a donation to a charity of your choice. It was Mom's wish that there be no funeral. Interment will be at a later date. We watched you suffer, we saw you die. But all we could do was sit close by. You went away, we had to part. God eased your pain, but broke our heart.
