Obituary of Karen Beatrice Yellowknee

YELLOWKNEE: Karen Beatrice Yellowknee. February 5, 1967 - April 18, 2018. Karen was born in Edmonton, Alberta on February 5, 1967 and passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 with her partner Dean and her siblings by her side. Karen spent the first month of her life in the hospital, for this reason she was given the nickname Maskihkewskwew (Nurse) by her maternal grandfather. Karen was raised in the small Hamlet of Wabasca, Alberta. She was the seventh child of ten children born to Alfred and Annette Yellowknee. She grew up with a different name and was better known as FooFoon. Karen was raised in a home where she was taught to live by virtues in everyday life. To be loyal, to always be kind, to never put yourself first, to always have respect and to always love. Karen's heart was the epitome of these virtues that were taught to her. Karen graduated from high school in 1986 and completed the LPN program with AVC (now Northern Lakes College) in 1988. The career choice is fitting given the above mentioned nickname. Karen left her hometown and family and took a chance at life and love and followed her heart to Manitoba. It was there that she found her true love, true happiness, found the true meaning of love and family with Dean Mini and family, whom she leaves behind. Karen is survived by her loving partner Dean Mini, step-children Nick Mini, Jon Mini and Heavenly Osborne, her siblings, Albert Yellowknee (Doreen), Lillian Bigstone (John), Brian Thunder (Lisa), Gloria Yellowknee, Caroline Gullion (Clifford), Alex Yellowknee (Diane), Janice Yellowknee, Terah Yellowknee. Karen had a very special place in her heart for Elijah who she always referred to as her love, little one. She will also be sadly missed by her blue heeler, Gizmo. She is predeceased by her Mother Annette Yellowknee, her Father George Yellowknee, brother Harvey Yellowknee, nephews Dallas Yellowknee and Dorium Yellowknee. A special thank you to family, loved ones and the community for the outpouring of support during our time of loss. A Funeral Service will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Sioux Valley Anglican Cemetery.
