Obituary of David Yacyshyn

David Yacyshyn April 29, 1944 – June 21, 2018 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Yacyshyn at the Brandon Regional Health Centre surrounded by his loving family in his 74th year. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Tammy (Vincent) Green, Jacqui (Barry) Mosiondz and Jason Yacyshyn (Brandie McDuff and children Austin and Bailey), brother Edgar Yacyshyn and sister Delilah (Dale) Macooh and brother in law, Peter Banko. Also surviving nieces, nephews, brothers and sister in-law. Dave is predeceased by his wife, Ollie (Babiak) and sister Kathy Banko. Dave attended Durban School and after school, he worked on the family farm with his father for several years. Dave then moved to Winnipeg where he worked at Versatile farm equipment and where he met Ollie. Dave and Ollie were married on November 25, 1967 in Durban, Manitoba and after a short stint in Brandon and Edmonton, they settled on a farm in the Durban area for approximately 38 years. While farming, Dave also worked as a carpenter building many granaries, homes, schools, bridges and businesses. Dave was a proud and active member of the Knights of Columbus and Durban Hall for many years. Dave and Ollie retired in 2008, sold their farm and relocated to the Monterey Estates in Brandon, Manitoba. Approximately 4 years after Ollie's passing, Dave moved to the Victoria Landing Retirement Residences in September, 2017. Throughout Dave's life he enjoyed woodworking, curling, and having "coffee" in the garages and shops around the Durban farming community. After retirement, Dave found a new love of fishing and spent many hours with friends and family on the lakes and rivers in southern Manitoba. In addition, he enjoyed travelling with Ollie to various casinos across Canada and the USA. Later, Dave went on several trips with family to southern locations including Florida, Cuba and Mexico. Divine Liturgy will be held at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 927 Assiniboine Avenue, Brandon, Manitoba on Wednesday, June 27th at 11:00 a.m. followed by a luncheon at the Monterey Estates Recreation Center, 1615 18th Street N., Brandon, Manitoba.
