Obituary of Edith Euphemia Hendricks

Hendricks: Edith Euphemia Hendricks passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the age of 102 years. Edith was born on March 14, 1916 in Brandon, MB to William John and Margaret (nee Moffat) Richardson. Edith was raised on the farm south of Brandon along with her seven siblings. She and her siblings spent many hours doing chores on the family farm as well as having fun horseback riding, combining and gathering eggs. After all their hard work they often would be rewarded with trips into Brandon to go to the cinema. As a child, Edith attended the country school in Cornwallis. Edith worked as a nurse's aide at Assiniboine Hospital as well as a cook/baker at the Churchill Harbours Board and Hospital. She also worked as a domestic engineer in both Brandon, MB and Kingston, ON and was a homemaker the majority of her life. During WW11 while her husband was away fighting the war, Edith was a foster mother. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in both Brandon and Churchill, MB as well as a member of the Army and Navy in Brandon, MB. Edith had many interest she enjoyed reading the newspaper, crossword puzzles, cording accompany piano, knitting, needling fancy embroidering, spending time with people both young and old. Edith had a great memory and often would recite poems and passages from the bible. Edith lived to be 102 years and 3 months old, despite battling breast cancer twice and being struck by lightning. Edith was predeceased by her parents Margaret and William Richardson, her second husband Alvin Hendricks, her third born child Catherine Lee, brothers Tom, Bob, Jack and George, sisters Mary and Dot, sisters-in-law Beatrice and Lorrine and brothers-in-law Gilbert and Alex. Left to cherish Edith's memory are her daughter Marilyn (George), son Barry, daughter-in-law Arlene, sister Irene, grandchildren Tammy, Crystal, Jimmy, Michael, Jay and Joey, great-grandchildren Brittany, Caitlyn, Phoenix, Shanell, Shae, Mathew and Catherine and great- great-grandchildren Wyatt, Slayter and Lexa, sisters-in-law Vera and Fern. A funeral service will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th St., on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Brandon Cemetery where Edith will be laid to rest with her late husband Swede Hendricks. Pallbearers will be Gord Corrigal, Michael Prout, Jimmy Comeau, Joey Davidson, Murray Brown and Maxine Brown. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Edith may be made to the Cancer Society, 415-1st St., Brandon, MB, R7A 2W8.
