Obituary of Joyce Paddock

PADDOCK: Joyce Eileen Paddock (Carefoot) passed away peacefully at Dinsdale Personal Care Home on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at the age of 96 years. She will be deeply missed by her son, Tim Paddock (Gail Hudey), and her two granddaughters, Rebecca and Sarah Paddock. Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Cecil Paddock, as well as her six brothers and five sisters. Joyce was born on June 22, 1922 in McAuley, Manitoba, the youngest of twelve children to Frederick and Janet Carefoot. She spent a lot of her time with her nieces and nephews growing up, as they were closer to her age than her siblings were. Joyce went to school in McAuley until Grade 11, and then moved to Winnipeg to attend Success Business College. Upon completion of her business course, she began working with an Insurance company where she spent many happy years. Joyce married Cecil Paddock on January 29, 1966. They farmed in Reston, Manitoba, as well as owned two creameries in Reston and Souris. Joyce and Cecil had one son, Tim, who brought a new meaning and fulfillment to their lives. They spent many happy years on the Reston farm, farming grain and raising hogs. Joyce and Cecil sold their farm and retired to Swan River. After Cecil's passing in 1972, Joyce and Tim moved to Brandon, Manitoba, where Tim finished high school. Joyce was Tim's biggest supporter, always encouraging him to get involved and to work hard. Tim credits the constant support from his Mom and the hours they spent talking together, as very important to him in the founding of his business, Paddock Drilling. Joyce was blessed with two granddaughters, Rebecca and Sarah, who became a very important part of her life. She was always eager to babysit, help out however she could, and enjoyed having the girls at her place for sleepovers. Big Grandma, the girls, and their mother, Ronelda, spent many special holidays together as well as summers up at her cottage at Oak Lake. In her younger years, Joyce enjoyed playing golf, bowling, and curling. Joyce loved to travel; she travelled to the Bahamas, Hawaii, across the United States, as well as through Europe with friends from Winnipeg. Joyce was an active member of the Central United Church and was a volunteer for Seniors for Seniors and United Church Women (UCW). She also loved to garden, shop, going out to eat, car rides, crossword puzzles, and keeping up with baseball and curling on TV. Joyce always worked hard and kept busy, whether at work or play. A celebration of Joyce's life was held at Brockie Donovan Chapel on Friday, July 20, 2018. Interment will be held at McAuley Cemetery at a later date. Donations in memory of Joyce may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Unit 3-2430, Victoria Avenue, Brandon, MB, R7B 0M5, or to The Salvation Army, 9 Princess Ave E., Brandon, MB, R7A 1R8.
