Obituary of Stanley Walter Phillips

PHILLIPS: Stanley Walter Phillips passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at the age of 73 years. Stan was born on January 12, 1945 in Brandon, MB to John and Sophie Phillips. Spending his early years in Brandon, Stan attended David Livingstone, Brandon Collegiate and Harrison High School. Stan's life-long commitment to the grocery industry began at a young age, he left school behind and began working in the grocery industry. He was eager to learn and wanted to broaden his knowledge of this industry. This desire took him to Winnipeg, where he set up many corporate stores. In 1977, Stan returned to Brandon and opened a store of his own called Stan's IGA which was later renamed Stan's Fine Foods. An opportunity to open up another location came along and he purchased a grocery store in Rivers, which he later sold. Stan worked hard to make his business successful. Stan not only had a passion for the grocery business to which he devoted his life, he also had a great love of sports. He loved watching hockey and football. He was a season ticket holder for many years with the Brandon Wheat Kings and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Stan was predeceased by his parents John and Sophie; brother Peter (Mae); sister-in-law Shirley and infant brother Stanley. Stan will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sharon; daughters Marlee (Warren) Murray and Kristen (Ian) Irwin; grandchildren Connor and Lauren Murray and Halle and Deklan Irwin; brothers Joe (Eleanor), Michael as well as many brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
