Obituary of Sierra Violet Hapa

HAPA: Sierra Violet "Mahpiyatadowan Win" Hapa. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sierra Violet at the home of her foster parents, Patrick and Teresa Campbell, on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the age of 9 years, after a courageous battle with cancer. Sierra was born on June 1, 2009. She was a curious girl, ready to try new things and make the best of any situation. She always had a crooked grin on her face and was ready to face whatever came next. Sierra lived and fought against cancer since the fall of 2014. She had a huge impact at CancerCare and the Children's Hospital, with her personality and unique sense of humour. She quickly became an expert on the routines and treatment. Sierra lived her life courageously, proudly and without fear. Sierra was predeceased by her great-grandmother Cecilia Dowan; great-grandfather Joe Hapa; maternal grandfather Edward Hotain Sr.; grandfather Clifford Hapa; Uncle Edward Hotain Jr.; cousin Dylan Hapa and baby brother Mahpiyatayake Hoksida. She will be lovingly remembered by her mother Danica Hapa; sisters Alicia and Halle Hapa; foster parents Teresa and Patrick Campbell and their children: Logan (Shayanne), Jeydon, Mack (Jacob) and foster siblings: Desiree, Adam and Fern and numerous family and friends. Also missing Sierra will be her beloved bulldog, Chloe. We would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Children's Hospital at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg and to the Brandon Regional Health Centre. A huge thank you to the Dakota Ojibway Child and Family Services of Sioux Valley and Brandon Offices. A Traditional Wake will be held at the Sioux Valley Veterans Hall, Sioux Valley, MB on Monday, September 3, 2018 beginning at 5:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the same location on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 beginning at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Hapa Cemetery. Sierra's attitude and laughter impacted every person she ever met. She will be greatly missed and live on in our hearts forever.
