Obituary of Doreen Rose Sage

SAGE: Doreen Rose. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Doreen Rose Sage on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 in Brandon, Manitoba. Doreen was born on December 13, 1936 in St-Elie d'Orford, Quebec. She graduated from Sherbrooke High School in 1954. She later moved to Montreal, Quebec to work at the Bell Telephone Company. It was there that she met her future husband, Allan Walter Sage, in 1960. They were married shortly after on March 31st, 1960. They made their home on military bases across Canada: College Militaire Royal in Ste. Jean, Quebec; Petawawa, Ontario; Edmonton, Alberta; Gypsumville, Manitoba and Shilo, Manitoba. When Al retired from the Canadian Armed Forces they decided to settle in Brandon and purchased their first home in September 1977. Doreen was employed with Veteran Affairs Canada until her retirement in 2001. Doreen was an active member of the Faith Fellowship Baptist Church and was heavily involved in the Awana Youth Program. In Doreen's early years she enjoyed camping, golfing and curling with family and friends. She was also involved with the Girl Guides of Canada. In more recent years she enjoyed sewing, quilting and gardening and was very passionate about her stamp collection and genealogy project. Doreen leaves to mourn her three daughters: Diane Moorehead, Linda Young and Jackie Sage; three granddaughters: Angie Young, Sara Moorehead and Amie Moorehead, all of Brandon; sister-in-law Ida Brady of Welland, Ontario and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Allan Walter and infant son Robert John; parents Wesley and Annie Arbery; sisters Irma Dickson and Edna Runions and brother Stanley Arbery; sisters-in-law Florence Coleman and Freda Nunamaker. A Funeral Service was held at Faith Fellowship Baptist Church on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, with Pastor Dan Cavey officiating. A private interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Greg Baraniuk, Ernie Fishbook, William Beam, Larry Thiessen, Daniel Werne and Barry Banman. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doreen's memory may be made to Faith Fellowship Baptist Church, 4 Willowdale Crescent, Brandon, MB, R7B 1A3 or to Cancer Care Manitoba, 1160 – 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9.
