Obituary of Dennis "Denny" Edgerton

EDGERTON: Dennis "Denny" Edgerton passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the age of 71 years. Denny was born on May 3, 1947, in Brandon, to Helen and Merle Edgerton. He attended Vincent Massey High school and then obtained a certificate in Electrical Construction. He later obtained his 3rd Class Power Engineering certificate. He worked in Northern Manitoba for Manitoba Hydro in the late 1960's before returning to Brandon to work for G.H. Smith Electrical. He then owned and operated a Shell service station in the early 1970's before joining the staff at Brandon Chrysler Dodge. In 1981 he changed careers, finding employment with the Simplot Fertilizer Company where he worked as a Plant Operator until his retirement in 2007. Denny was a life-long car enthusiast and an accomplished jack-of-all-trades. In addition to cars, he could fix just about anything; including electrical and plumbing. He undertook many construction and renovation projects over his lifetime, including building garages and cabins and renovating several houses to accommodate his growing family. He enjoyed woodworking and for a number of years had a small crafting business (Country Edge), building and selling wooden crafts with his wife Pat at craft sales across the province. He also enjoyed working with stained glass, creating lamp shades and various other stained glass ornaments and sun catchers. He and his wife Pat moved to Lake of the Prairies in 2007 and lived there until moving to Russell in 2016. In retirement, he enjoyed fishing, whether on his pontoon boat in summer or in his ice shack in winter. He could also often be found trail riding with his "Rhino" a 4 wheel off road ATV, or spending time with his four grandchildren. He was a loving husband and father and a very proud grandfather. Denny loved music and singing, and had an encyclopedic knowledge of song lyrics. He had a great sense of humour and a generous spirit and was always willing to lend a helping hand to neighbours, friends and family. He was predeceased by his mother Helen Edgerton (2007) and father Merle Edgerton (1992). He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Pat; his son Jason (Trina) and their children Tate and Jordan; his son Jared (Terri-Ann) and their children Jack and Andrew; his daughters Renee and Tricia; his mother-in-law Julia Chartier; and his sister Nancy DeRoo (Terry) and her family. Denny's family would like to express their gratitude to the home care nurses from Prairie Mountain Health Region, and to Dr. Pieterse and the staff at Russell Health Centre for their care and support of him over the last few years, as well as to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital Cardiac Unit. A Celebration of Denny's Life will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Monday, November 19 at 1:00 p.m. with Arlene Robertson officiating. Donations in memory of Denny may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation, 1379 Kenaston Blvd., Winnipeg, MB, R3P 2T5 or Diabetes Canada, Unit A1-800 Rosser Ave., Brandon, MB, R7A 6N5.
