Obituary of Archie Harold Gillespie

GILLESPIE: Archie Harold Gillespie of Brandon, Manitoba passed away peacefully with his family by his side on December 2, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on August 2, 1935 in Kenora, Ontario to William and Dorothy Gillespie. They later moved to Brandon, and with the exception of working out of town for a bit with the railway, Archie lived in Brandon the remainder of his life. He went to school in Brandon and played hockey here as a young boy. He always told so many stories of his youth and from these it sounds like he had quite a fun and mischievous childhood. He started the railway at a young age following in his father's footsteps in the signal department. Archie continued to work at the CPR for many years. He always had a great love of gardening that was instilled in him from his parents who had won many awards for their gardens. Archie's knowledge has been handed down to his family who continue to have success with this passion. He also had a love of woodworking and made a lot of wonderful crafts. He had a lot of wisdom that he loved to pass on and he was always enthused by other people's interests. He loved telling stories, whether they were serious or funny, but he loved the funny ones! Archie loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they will miss him. Archie is survived by his daughter Donna (Dan) Robleski of Brandon, granddaughters Kari of Brandon and Sarah (Brad) of Esterhazy, SK, great-grandchildren Brooklynn of Brandon and Abby and Ty of Esterhazy, sister Gloria (Garth) Moreland of Brandon, brother George (Laurie) Gillespie of Brandon, sisters-in-law Joyce (Moe) Smith of Winnipeg, Judy (Harvey) Gregorash of Calgary and Nancy (Laurie) Smith of Calgary and Phyllis Gillespie of Brandon as well numerous nieces and nephews. Archie was predeceased by his parents William and Dorothy, his wife Shirley of 51 years in 2005, his brother Jack and sisters Jessie Crozier and Norah Watt; mother and father-in-law Marj and Jim Peacock of Brandon; sister and brother-in-law Anne and Ken Stock, of Red Deer, Alberta. A Graveside Service will be held at the Brandon Cemetery, on Saturday, December 8, 2018 (today) at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Archie may be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200-17th Street East, Brandon, MB, R7A 7M6.
