Obituary of Frances Elizabeth Jackson

JACKSON: Frances Elizabeth Jackson (née Baker). Frances was born on November 15, 1937 in Cornwallis to Norman Leslie Baker and Ellen Isobel Baker (née Baldwin). She grew up with her siblings and cousins on the Baker homestead south of Brandon in the Brandon Hills. Frances attended Gorrie School and St. Michael's Academy. As a young woman, she attended secretarial school at Assiniboine Community College. Frances was married and moved to Winnipeg where she welcomed two sons; Michael John and Stephen Leslie. Following the end of her marriage, Frances and her two sons moved to the Baker homestead where she dutifully cared for her ailing mother. Service was a large part of Frances' life, and a large part of who she was. She volunteered in her community, at her church, she cared for her ailing family, she cared for others in her work, and she raised her two boys. Upon the passing of her mother, Frances and her two sons moved to Brandon where she proudly purchased her own home and raised her two boys. There are few pictures of Frances, as she enjoyed being behind the camera, carefully documenting the lives of her children and family. Frances was a very hard worker. She worked with We Care Services Inc. sitting with ailing people at the hospital, providing home care. She retired in 2003. Frances enjoyed being involved in her community and in the lives of her children. Frances co-led the cub troop that her sons were in. She was a member of the Brandon Hills Community Fireflies, proudly baking and donating desserts for the annual beef barbecue each August. She continued this well past her own retirement. Frances was strong in her Faith. She attended church each Sunday at St. George's Anglican Church for as long as she was able. When it became necessary for her to move to Fairview Personal Care Home, she participated in the Church services for as long as she was able, and continued to enjoy the music up until her passing. Frances spent years in the church choir. She also volunteered for many years with her church in several capacities. During the last several years while she was able to live in her home, one of the highlights of her day was carefully tending to the flower beds outside of the church so that everyone could enjoy them. Frances was a devoted parent and grandmother. While she was able, she spent much time visiting, playing with, and caring for her grandson, Thomas. Frances is survived by her siblings Ivan (Linda), Dennis (Lilah), and Dave (Marge), her sons Michael and Stephen (Lisa), and her grandson Thomas. Frances spent her last few years at Fairview Personal Care Home being supported by many caring and kind staff and volunteers. Frances passed away peacefully on December 13, 2018 with her children by her side. Frances' funeral was held at her family church on December 19th. She was interred at Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Brandon, MB. In lieu of flowers, Frances would have appreciated a donation to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200 – 17th St. E., Brandon, MB, R7A 7M6.
