Obituary of Elizabeth "Betty" Kyle

KYLE: SARAH ELIZABETH "BETTY" KYLE (Née HOLDITCH) September 20, 1920 - February 6, 2019 It is with sadness we announce the passing of our mother Betty Kyle at the age of 98 years. She is survived by her two sons, Keith and Glen, daughter-in-law Janice; four grandchildren Larissa (Neil) MacDonald, Brent (Leanne) Kyle, Brandi (David) Jackman and Jerron (Lindsey) Kyle; 14 great-grandchildren Benson, Janessa, Elliot, Wesley, Collin, Robert, Anita and Timothy MacDonald, Ella and Luke Kyle, Jedidiah and Hannah Jackman, Bennett and Lawson Kyle; her sister Jean Boyd, sister-in-law Ruth (Norman) McKinnon, numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Betty attended Fairburn and Boissevain schools, followed by Normal School in Brandon and teaching in Mather, Killarney, and Flin Flon. Betty and Jack (Edwin John) Kyle fell in love in Grade 11 but weren't married until July 20, 1946. For Betty that was a long eight years, with Jack overseas for 3 1/2 years serving in the war. They bought the Jim Kyle farm in Brownlea District, farming for 40 years, which Betty later said was a good life. Keith was born in 1947 and Glen in 1951. The years that followed were filled with ball and hockey tournaments, 4-H Club, picnics, square dancing, Brownlea Ladies group, boarding the teacher and frequent family gatherings. In 1982, they retired from the farm and moved to Brandon, close to their four grandchildren, who Betty loved to treat with ice cream, food and clothing. Jack and Betty continued to square dance, meeting many wonderful friends and travelling to jamborees. They had several holidays to various places. Betty loved to bake and cook for her family and friends, and there was always a warm welcome and a carefully laid out meal. Betty did all things well, enjoyed flowers and decorating, and hosting her family and friends. She enjoyed food and her ice cream to the end and enjoyed going out for coffee or a meal with her sons. She missed Jack tremendously when he passed away in May of 2010. She died as she lived, with dignity and grace. Special thanks to the Valleyview Care Centre staff who looked after mom. Cremation has taken place. Interment will take place on Friday, April 26, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Brandon Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Betty's Life at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow at Central United Church. Donations in Betty's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society 415-1st Street, Brandon, MB R7A 2W8 or to a charity of choice.
