Obituary of Letty Ellen Newton

NEWTON: It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing our precious Mom and Grandma. Letty Newton was called home into the arms of her Lord and Saviour Jesus on Monday, March 11, 2019. What can be said of a life well lived at the age of 93? Mom was born Letty Ellen Nystrom to Ellen Maria and Victor Eric on May 15, 1925 in the town of Erickson, Manitoba. She was married to her sweetheart, Henry Andrew Newton, for 68 years and was predeceased by him in 2011. Mom was a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She travelled many times with Dad to keep close ties with family. She loved square dancing, hunting and fishing trips with Dad. She lovingly volunteered for her church for many years, putting on multiple baby and bridal showers. She belonged to Streamliners for many years. She was a fun loving person with a wonderful sense of humour. Had many words of wisdom pertaining to life lessons that she generously shared with family and friends. She is survived by her sister Ada Shellborn of Erickson, Manitoba and is predeceased by her parents Ellen and Victor and her brother Stan Nystrom of Toronto. Our Dear little Christian Mom and Grandma loved her Baptist Church and her Lord Jesus, a love which she has passed on as a legacy to her family: her children, Judy Mirzai (Dr. Mike Mirzai-deceased) of Maui and Elly Bateman (Murray Bateman) of Calgary, her grandchildren – Dr. Michael Mirzai (Eva Marie) of North Dakota, Dr. Todd Mirzai of Maui and Dr. Deanna Mirzai-Nagasaka (Steve) of Maui, Desiree Shannon (Don Godin) and Lani Southgate (Zane) and her many great grandchildren - Evanna Mirzai, Michael Junior Mirzai, Darius Mirzai, Leila Nagasaka, Jack Nagasaka, Max Nagasaka, Brooke Shannon, Ethan Shannon and Scott Southgate. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mom was always kind to those less fortunate and worked for many years for her beloved First Baptist Church where she made countless wonderful friends whom were so richly blessed by her generosity and love. We will forever cherish your memory and legacy in our hearts as the wonderful role model you have been in our lives and the precious moral life lessons you taught us. Mom, until we meet again in heaven, we will love you forever. A celebration of Letty's life is planned for Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the church where she regularly attended, First Baptist Church, 3881 Park Avenue, Brandon, MB. If desired, donations in memory of Mom may be made to a charity of choice.
