Obituary of Rena Cornish

CORNISH: Rena (née Phillips) of Rapid City, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, March 19, 2019 at the Minnedosa Personal Care Home at the age of 102. Mom is survived by daughters, Jean Chapman, Shirley Bettle, son Morley and daughter-in-law Faye. She is also survived by grandchildren Judy Esplin (Greg), Sharon Garbutt (Pete), Ken Chapman (Wendy), Jeff Bettle, Gary Bettle (Jetta) and Amanda Cornish as well as 10 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren and numerous nephew and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband Victor in 1990, her parents Jack and Laura Phillips, her 5 siblings and their spouses, sons-in–law Keith Chapman and Howard Bettle. Mom lived all her life in the Rapid City area. Mom married Victor in 1936 and lived on the family farm until Dad's death in 1990 when she moved to Rapid City. Mom was very supportive and worked side by side with Dad on the farm. Mom was active in the UCW and Rebecca Lodge. She loved to garden, knit, crochet, play cards and was a very active reader. A service to celebrate Rena's life was held March 23, 2019 with Rev. Barb Jardine officiating. Pallbearers were Ken Chapman, Greg Esplin, Jeff Bettle, Brett Esplin, Pete Garbutt and Darcy Bayes. A private interment took place at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to Rapid City Regional Library, Box 8, Rapid City, R0K1W0 or a charity of choice.
