Obituary of Tony Zdebiak

ZDEBIAK: It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Tony Zdebiak at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on April 18th, at the age of 90. Left to mourn and cherish his memory is his loving wife Marion of 65 years, his niece Debbie Smiley (Doug), several nieces and nephews, as well as extended family members. Tony was born in the R.M. of Strathclair and was the youngest of 9 children. He received his education in Strathclair but at the age of 16, his father passed away, at which time he decided to run the farm with his mother. In 1953, Tony married the love of his life, Marion Domanski, and together they enjoyed farming and maintaining their beautiful yard for which they received numerous awards. They also enjoyed travelling throughout Canada and the U.S. and drove to many scenic destinations. Later in life, they enjoyed going on bus trips and found great joy in casino getaways. Tony was an active member of the Manitoba Pool Elevator, the local Co-op, as well as the Credit Union. He enjoyed playing cards and pool, keeping things neatly organized in his garage, and he especially enjoyed fishing at their cottage at Thomas Lake. In 1989, they sold their farm and moved to Sandy Lake where they maintained another beautiful yard on a smaller scale. In 2003, they moved to Brandon where they resided at a 55 plus complex called Village Green. Tony was well liked by all those who got to know him, and he and Marion enjoyed playing cards with friends, getting together for coffee, and going on various social outings. Tony had a special way of making people laugh and his sense of humour and friendly personality will greatly be missed by all those who knew him. Tony was predeceased by his parents Nick and Jenny Zdebiak, his brothers Mike (Carrie), Sandy (Rose), Peter (Margaret), as well as his sisters Anne Chwaluk (John), Rose Nykoliation (Bill), Kay Kyrylik (Peter), Mary, and Caroline. He was also predeceased by his fond nephew Walter Zdebiak, his wife Annette, as well as several in-laws. The family wish to thank Dr. Minders, Dr. Gupta, and the wonderful staff at the Brandon Regional Health Centre who took such great care of Tony in his final weeks. Their kindness and compassion is greatly appreciated. Funeral arrangements have been made with Brockie Donovan but in keeping with Tony's wishes there will be no formal service. Cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Tony can be made to a charity of one's choice.
