My grandfather. David Nicol. One of the most influential if not the most influential person in my life. Was always there for me, guiding me, teaching me, even if I didn't ask to be taught. There was a special bond there that we have grown ever since I was little running around on the farm seeing what you were doing, always bugging you about the big tractors and what not.
I was always a little intimidated by you. You were such a prominent figure in my life that whenever you were around I felt I had to be better, do better, to make you proud. You were a hell of a worker and I strive to be like you. I still do, and always will.
This isn't easy for me. It isn't easy for grandma, mom, dad, and everyone else's heart you've touched along your journey of life. You will be missed by so many people, but the love we have for you will never fade. I know you'll be there with us this fall when we're taking the crops off. Making sure things go as good as they can.
Rest easy grandpa Dave, I love you. Forever.
You will never be forgotten. there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about you. wishing I could have your advice one last time.
love, your grandson Eric

Thanks to you all for the kind words & amazing support. Building a life surrounding a company, farm, and one strong, dedicated man to hold it all together makes the grieving process that much more difficult.
It's extremely challenging to punch a time card, fire up the equipment and keep things going, knowing that the man who you were doing it all for is never going to drive into the yard or pits again, and tell you what you're going to be doing or asking how things are going.
It wasn't just work, punching out and going home, and then off to the farm or the fields to further the working relationship, it afforded us a lot, and gave a lot of people many opportunities to work in an environment that absolutely possessed this family type of atmosphere.
Things hurt, that's all I can say. Everybody in the family is definitely wearing a mask at this point, there is definitely going to be a great, big, feeling of emptiness for a long, long time, a void that cannot be filled.
Many memories. So many good times. He was a prominent business figure around the Brandon area and certainly will be missed by all.

To Shirley and family thinking of you at your time of loss. Thought I would share a story with you. David was at the wash plant and we were talking and walking to the office and the swallows were dive bombing me. David smiled and giggle and said those swallows sure don't like you. I am privileged to have worked for David and be part of the Wheat City family. Tracy Thompson

I first met Dave and Shirley when I became a Director of Wheat City Concrete eleven years ago.
It felt like I was joining the family and Jackie and I were made to feel most welcome from the get go.
It was a real privilege to get to know Dave who's leadership was so respected and the knowledge of his industry so deep.
Very few businesses have stood the test of time as long as Wheat City and this is testimony to Dave, and the confidence and support of the shareholders.
We share the sorrow of Dave's passing and wish Shirley and the family every comfort at this difficult time.
