Devastated to hear of this wonderful person and revered jurist's life cut far too short. His caring, empathetic and brilliant work in matters especially involving children, and particularly in Case Management/Case Conferencing when the lawyers/parties were invested in the process, will long continue to impact Manitoba. His dedication consistently resulted in tremendous savings to families (and the Court system), in time, stress, disruption and legal expense, which funds he would often remark would be better spent toward the children. Always equitable, always courteous, always kind. Very sorry not to be able to attend. Our hearts go out to his loved ones.

I was so sorry to hear of Don's passing and my condolences to his whole family. Don was my law school classmate who will be remember by all of us for his intelligence, kindness and wonderful sense of humour. In my memory he always had that smile on his face. I have followed his career from a far and know that he was a well respected jurist - I think the first of our classmates to go to the bench - known for wisdom but also his courtroom manner. He will be much missed by his friends and colleagues.

Many of the lawyers at Patersons LLP, past and present, had the great fortune to know and appear before Mr. Justice Little. We loved spending time with him at Clear Lake at the Western Bar's AGM every September. He was definitely one of the best Family Division Justices in Manitoba. We were saddened to hear about his passing, and would like to send our condolences to his family.

The lawyers and staff at Mitousis Lemieux Howard send our deepest condolences to the colleagues, friends and family of the Honourable Mr. Justice Little. We are so saddened by his passing. The legal profession has lost a great jurist. Mr. Justice Little treated everyone who appeared before him with the utmost respect and courtesy no matter how difficult the circumstances. His thoughtful and fair approach to the resolution of family law disputes was always appreciated, as was his diligent work to help families move past their challenges. We admired him so much and will miss him greatly. It is truly hard to imagine the Family Division without him.

I worked with Don when he articled at Roy, Johnston & Co. What a sweet guy he was then, so I can well imagine how the years enhanced that quality. His sense of humour, willingness to ask questions to learn from a "mere" secretary, and intelligence (I called him the Wayne Gretzky of law because there were so many awards listed on his resume) made him unique. Sincere sympathy to you Barb, and your family - he was a gem.

When I proposed to my wife - through the cryptoquip - Justice Little congratulated me at a case conference. He was so genuine and gracious with junior counsel. His decisions were always a treat to read, because not only were they well thought out, but they were so well drafted. He had a way with words/turns of phrases, that made reading his decisions enjoyable. He will be missed.

I am so very sorry for your family's loss. I am also very sorry for the loss to our profession. I have such a profound respect for Justice Little. He has had a tremendous impact on me as a family lawyer and in my personal life. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity and privilege to have appeared before him. He was part of the foundation of my respect for the Manitoba Family Division and one of the reasons I looked forward to coming home to practicing in Winnipeg.

When I heard of Justice Little's passing I was heart sick. I was heart sick because I became to learn after appearing before him for 20 years that he was fair, reasonable and a true judge. Above all,he was a fine man.
He listened to all sides and made a learned decision after considering all the evidence. I didn't always agree with him and he sure didn't agree with me all the time but that was okay because justice was done and seen to be done as well.
He was "street smart" and wouldn't be hood winked. He was very wise.
He worked hard for families always making himself available for the lawyers. He mediated many disputes I was involved in and he made sure he understood all the issues and technicalities where corporate issues were involved.
I didn't know him personally but I did professionally and he was always a gentleman who NEVER raised his voice in any hearing I was involve in, and there were many.
He would sometimes inject humour referring to his own experiences with his children anecdotally to the parties. He spoke to the lawyers and clients not above them or in any condescending way....no airs.
I learned a lot from him as well appearing before him, lessons I call upon to this day.
He was a judge's judge, a man of humility who really really cared.
To his family, I can only say you can be very proud of your husband and dad. He was proud of you I know from how he would refer to you in court.
I am truly very sorry for his loss but his legacy will live on in so many ways for years to come.

I appeared in front of Don many times during his time as a Family Division Judge. He was gentle, courteous to everyone in the courtroom, and respectful of all counsel (from junior to senior). His decisions were always detailed enough and in plain English, so that non-lawyers could understand his reasons. He was particularly focused on the needs and rights of children. My condolences to his family and the legal profession in general.
