Obituary of Isobel Joan Marriott

MARRIOTT: Isobel Joan (Skinner) April 12, 1917 - August 8, 2019. It is with sadness we announce the death of Joan at Brandon, Manitoba. Mum had a full 102 years, living the greater part in the R.M. of Daly. At the age of nine she attended Robinville School, prior to which she was home schooled by her Grandmother Frank. After her marriage to Reg, they lived a short time in Arden, and then returned to help out on the John Marriott farm before purchasing the W 1/2 of 14-12-20 in Daly. Mum raised four children and helped with farm chores, always being a marvelous host to all who came for a visit. She boarded school teachers for many years, was an active member of both Roseville Mission and St. James Anglican Church, worked many federal and provincial elections, was a board member of the Riverdale Hospital, camp director at the Anglican Church Camp, board member of the Diocesan executive, was employed at McKenzies Store and Alice Jacksons clothing store. Dad and Mum travelled extensively to California, all parts of Canada, and Europe. Mum loved her family dearly. She was an avid gardener and homemaker. Mum is predeceased by her parents Geoffrey and Phoebe Skinner; husband Reg and brother John. Surviving to treasure our memories are her children: Beverly (Ian) Barnes; Donald (Diane); Douglas (Margaret) and Susanne (Doug) Smallwood; sister-in-law Joanne Busenius; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service celebrating Mum's life will be held at St. James Anglican Church, 580 Columbia St., Rivers, on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with a family interment having taken place at Roseville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, Unit 301 – 1 Wesley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4C6; the March of Dimes, 10 Overlea Blvd., Toronto, ON, M4H 1A4; or to a charity of your choice
