Obituary of Douglas Cecil Powne

POWNE: Douglas Cecil Powne, January 22, 1949 to October 15, 2019. It is with sadness we announce the passing of Doug Powne of Brandon, MB. Marking his loss is his family, son James (Jimmy), and wife Naomi, their sons (grandsons) Anthony and Harley Powne of Grand Prairie, AB; daughter Krista and husband Scott, their children (grandchildren) Bailey and Jordyn Dreger of Saskatoon, SK; and sister Lois Powne of Winnipeg, MB. As a long time owner/operator of C&D Delivery of Brandon, Doug was well respected by his many customers. Doug was an avid sportsman. He was passionate about baseball - as a player, coach and armchair umpire. He also curled for many years and enjoyed watching hockey and fastball on TV. Doug enjoyed road trips and planned many vacations to major league baseball games, as well as trips to visit his grandchildren. After a stroke in spring of 2018, Doug relied on the care and support of a close circle of friends. The family is deeply indebted to these people for stepping in. The family also thanks the staff at Valleyview Personal Care Home for their gracious and happy service. A Celebration of Doug's life will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Doug may be made to the Valleyview Personal Care Home, 3015 Victoria Avenue, Brandon, MB, R7B 2K2, or to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 401-1 Wesley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4C6.
