Obituary of Denise Noreen Ek

EK: Dr. Denise "Noreen" Ek, born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on March 20, 1950, died peacefully November 1, 2019 at the Assiniboine Centre, Brandon, Manitoba, at the age of 69 years. She is predeceased by her husband Herbert Pullan Wood, as well as her father, Donald Nels Ek. Loving mother to Jan (Bradley Sinclair-Wood) Ek and Nissa Esler (nee Ek), and remembered by her mother Shirley Sinclair Ek (nee Simmons), her siblings Danny (Darlene) Ek, Lori Ek, Barry (Beverly) Ek, her grandchildren Jacob Esler and Samuel Esler, her nieces and nephews Cody Ek, Brianne (Jason) Roblin (nee Ek), Chastity Ek, Bradley Ek. She also leaves behind extended family Shannon (Rachelle Wellborn) Noble, and their children Haylie, Zander, and Rory. Noreen was born and raised in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. She completed Nursing School in Portage la Prairie, then moved to Brandon and went on to complete her Bachelor of Arts Specialist (Psychology) degree at Brandon University, then her Master of Arts (Psychology) and her Doctorate (Psychology) from the University of Manitoba. She went on to spend many years at the BMHC counseling children and families, until she made a change and retired as a professor in the Health Studies Department at Brandon University. What a difference one single life made.
