Obituary of Matt Chychowski

CHYCHOWSKI: Matt Chychowski passed away unexpectedly in his home on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the age of 80 years. Matt was born on July 7th, 1939 in Grandview, Manitoba. He grew up on a farm South of Grandview and helped his parents on the farm all throughout his childhood and adolescent years. He spent this time with his parents, sisters, brothers, and many friends. As a boy, Matt and his best friend, Tony, were altar boys at the church. Matt worked on a grain farm at the age of 16, the year he also bought his first car, a 57' Chevy he was so proud of. He met the love of his life, Shirley, at age 21 while playing in a band at her brother's wedding. They spent 60 wonderful years together. During his lifetime, Matt worked on many farms, a lumber yard, Mountain View School Division, Coop, and Ford Ignition. He was an active member in the Troyanda School of Ukrainian Dance for many years. Matt's greatest passion in life was music. He learned to play the violin, guitar, accordion, and harmonica at a young age - all by ear. He played in numerous bands throughout the years and loved to make sure everyone was having a great time…happy and laughing. He loved calling and checking in on all his family members. He also loved making plant stands for family members and finding unique finds at garage sales. In his later years, Saturday nights were his favourite nights to play Bingo and listen to the Polka Party with his wife. Matt is lovingly remembered by his wife Shirley Chychowski, daughters Michelle (Brent) McIntyre and Denise Chychowski, granddaughter Courtney Chychowski, and sister Lillian Kozakowski. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Matt was predeceased by his parents Paul and Mary Chychowski, sisters Teenie Kaminski, Mabel Pulock, Nellie Kostiuk, Annie Kachan, and Olga Chychowski, brothers Pete, and John Chychowski, nephews Mike Kaminski and David Kozakowski and niece Jeanette Sawchuk. Funeral Liturgy will be held at the St. Elias Ukrainian Catholic Church, 126 Sinnott Avenue in Grandview, MB on Friday, November 22nd at 11:00 a.m. with Rev Father Yaroslav Strukhlyak officiating. Interment will follow in the Riding Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Trevor Sawchuk, Jamie Lobert, Jason Lobert, Clinton Kaminski, Clayton Kaminski, and Dwain Pulock. Cross bearer will be Patti Lyle. A time of fellowship will follow at the Grandview Kinsmen Community Centre.
