Obituary of Ada Mildred Meggison

MEGGISON: Ada Mildred Meggison (nee Renwick) passed away at Brandon Regional Health Centre on Monday, December 30, 2019 at the age of 92 years. Ada was born at Wakopa, Manitoba on February 4, 1927 to David Sim Renwick and Grace Henderson. She grew up in the Wakopa district, south of Ninga. She was the youngest of eight children. She attended Wakopa School and finished high school in 1945, in Boissevain. That summer, Ada took a short course at United College in Winnipeg and obtained a temporary teaching certificate. In August that year, she began teaching at Waterloo school in the Goodlands area where she met her future husband, Scott Meggison. Scott and Ada were married on July 20, 1946 at Killarney. They farmed in the Waterloo district for 28 years and during that time their two daughters, Linda and Lorraine were born. Their family participated in many community events, both in the rural district and in the small village of Goodlands. Ada was a 4-H leader and Sunday School teacher and was involved with the community ladies group. In 1974, Scott and Ada moved to Brandon and soon after began attending Central United Church. There, Ada quickly became involved with the United Church Women and took on volunteer roles at the Brandon Regional Hospital. She and Scott also volunteered as greeters at a local Brandon campground for a few summers. Ada was employed seasonally at Lindenberg Seeds where she prepared seed package orders each spring. Ada's family grew with the arrival of grandchildren – Janelle, Meghan, Jamieson and Celine. Scott and Ada both enjoyed following their grandchildren's activities and successes. In 2013, the passing of their daughter, Lorraine, brought them much heartache. It hurt Ada so much to have a daughter pass away at such a young age. In recent years, great granddaughters, Emily, Madelyn and Riatta joined the family. Ada was eagerly anticipating the arrival of her fourth great grandchild, expected in mid-January. In 2014, Scott and Ada started planning for a move to assisted living at Rotary Villas in Brandon. When construction on the facility was complete, Ada was able to move into their suite but Scott's failing health had already taken him to the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon. Ada was very disappointed that they did not have the opportunity to enjoy their new home together. After 68 years of marriage, Ada lost her beloved Scott on March 8, 2015. She was heartbroken and missed him profoundly in the following years. Ada will be remembered by her daughter, Linda (Ross) Sprung and son-in-law, Michael Smith; grandchildren Janelle (Cameron) Chawrun, Meghan (Kevin) McKinnon, Jamie Ripley (Crystal Berry) and Celine (Joel) Meggison Jones; great granddaughters Emily and Madelyn Chawrun, and Riatta McKinnon, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents David and Grace Renwick, husband Scott, daughter Lorraine, all of her seven siblings, and one brother Lorne, in infancy. A memorial service was held at Central United Church on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Joe Ball officiating. The interment of the urn will take place at Rosewood Memorial Gardens at a later date. Donations in memory of Ada may be made to a charity of choice.
