Obituary of Helen Barnett Brownlee

 Helen Brownlee

  1921-2020

On Tuesday, January 28, 2020 Mum’s 98 year mission of love and caring ended when the Lord called her home to be with Dad who predeceased her 20 years ago. Mum lived her life with love, grace and dignity and she left us in the same way. This was written by her grandson-in-law, Don Smith. She loved welcoming and having family and friends into her home, whether it was on the farm in Sinclair or in retirement in Brandon. The kitchen was her place of comfort and you never left hungry. Care packages of butter tarts and egg salad sandwiches never lasted very long. She is survived by her son Rodney and daughter-in-law Myrna as well as three granddaughters: Alana (Don), Charlene, (Tony) and Kristyl (John). Family was everything to Mum and she loved having great-grandchildren Riley and Rhiannon pop in to visit her or drive down to Texas or Seattle to see Peyton and Kieran.  Mum loved sports and participated in curling, lawn bowling and baseball. She loved the Toronto Blue Jays and spent her 90th birthday in Toronto with family watching a game. Her love of people meant she was involved in many organizations wherever she lived, too numerous to mention. One of her favourites was the Red Hat Ladies or Crown Jewels. One of her many activities at Victoria Landing was playing bingo. She often came home a winner.  A special thanks to Allistair, Brenda, Heather and Gay for their frequent visits. I know that Mum looked forward to and enjoyed those visits. A Memorial Service will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332 8th Street, on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Central Untied United Church, 327 8th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 3X5.
