Clem Grosjean

Obituary of Clem Grosjean

Mr. Clement (Clem) Alphonse Grosjean of Brandon, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 1, 2020, after a brief illness, one month short of his 91st birthday. Clem is survived by his loving wife Kathleen (Kay); children: Glenn Grosjean (Sheila Gordon) and Lee (Gord) Leonard; grandchildren: Erin Grosjean (Jeffry Fridfinnson); Rebekka Grosjean; Zoe Grosjean; Dustin Leonard (Ambre Maurer); Whitney Leonard (Andrew Callow); Cagney Leonard (Tina Warren); brother: Jack Grosjean (Eileen Chapple); sisters: Anna Enns and Josie Buckingham; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Julien and Laure Grosjean; sisters Eva Stewart, Alice Kettles, Maria Grosjean, Rose Kettles, Jeanne Bastien, and Clemence Willman; and brothers Joe Grosjean, twin brother Fernie Grosjean, Felix Grosjean, and Jules Grosjean. Clem and his twin brother, Fernie, were two of 14 children born to Julien and Laure Grosjean in Griswold, Manitoba, on April 1, 1929. Clem met the love of his life, Kay Davis, at a Saturday night dance in early 1955. They married in Virden, Manitoba, on November 19, 1955. Together, they raised son, Glenn, and daughter, Lee. The family relocated to Oxbow, Saskatchewan in 1966. Clem sat as a town councillor in the 1980s. A loyal, 33-year employee of Gulf Oil, Clem retired in 1989 at age 60 to become a snowbird. After spending a number of winters exploring the warm destinations of the southern United States, Clem and Kay took up residence in Mesa, AZ, during the winter months, until 2001. They settled in Brandon, Manitoba in 1998, where they remained long-time residents of the Lion's Manor until his death. Clem was an avid bowler and gardener and was known for keeping his yard and car immaculate. He enjoyed golfing and doing scratch lottery tickets, crossword puzzles, and singing silly songs to his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing cards and, more often than not, he won at cribbage. Clem had a wonderful sense of humour and often claimed that he was "as tough as whalebone." A more loving husband, dad, and grandpa could not be found. A kind, caring man, Clem will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service was held on Friday, March 6th, 2020 at St. Mary's Anglican Church, Brandon with The Rev. Christopher Evetts officiating. Donations in memory of Clem may be made to St. Mary's Anglican Church, 401-1st Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 2W8 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 415-1st Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 2W8.
