Obituary of William Alexander "Budd" Forsyth

FORSYTH: William Alexander (Budd) Forsyth passed away quietly with his family by his side at the Assiniboine Centre, Brandon, Manitoba on March 6, 2020 at the age of 95 years. Budd was born March 15, 1924, and grew up on the family farm west of Virden, Manitoba. He attended Bosshill and Woodnorth schools, and then joined the Royal Canadian Air force in 1942. He traveled across Canada as ground crew serving at Commonwealth Air Training facilities for the remainder of World War II. After an honourable discharge, Budd spent the next 15 years on the family farm, with one year stints at teacher's college and pharmacy school. He also worked for The Hudson Bay Company in Mobert, Ontario and spent two seasons doing seismic exploration in Northern B.C., helping to build the Alaska Highway. Returning to the Virden area in the 1950's, Budd worked the family farm before taking local employment with Chevron Standard Corporation, being a pumper/gauger for over 30 years and retiring in 1992. Budd married Anne Finlay, October 9, 1965. For 50 years they lived south of Virden on Cemetery Road, and then moved to Brandon in 2017. Budd had two special passions; flying and art. Besides serving in the Air Force, Budd was a long-time member of the Virden and Area Flying Club. Then, in the early 80's he purchased a Cessna 150, and the joy found in that little plane was shared with his family. After retirement, Budd pursued a latent interest in painting. Many winter evenings were spent meticulously putting life memories to canvas. His paintings are treasured by family and friends. Budd is survived by his two daughters Leanne (Carl) Teichrib and Dawn (Gary) Redlin. His grandchildren Scott (Demi) Teichrib, Austin Teichrib, Lauren(Jesse) Enns, and Caitlin Redlin; his sister Betty Sumner, sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Myrna Mitchell, Gail Hickson, Linda and Bernard Chrisp, and many nieces and nephews. Budd was predeceased by his wife Anne (Finlay) in May of 2019, sister Minnie Harding, and brother Lorne Forsyth. Funeral services were held in Virden at St. Pauls United Church, March 14, 2020 with Pastor Randy Fehr of Gladstone, Manitoba officiating. Grayson Ross provided fiddle music prior to the service, and honoured the family by playing bagpipes at the interment. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at the Assiniboine Centre palliative care ward. Their compassion, understanding, and nursing skills were a blessing to the family. Donations in honour of Budd may be made to Brandon and Area Youth For Christ, 4-1228 Rosser Ave, Brandon, MB, R7A 0L9 or to the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum, Box 3, Grp 520, RR 5, Brandon, MB, R7A 5Y5, or to a charity of your choice.
