Boyd O'Halloran

Obituary of Boyd O'Halloran

O'HALLORAN: Dennis "Boyd" O'Halloran, of Brandon, MB, passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, on March 28, 2020 at the age of 67 years. Born June 30, 1952 in Brandon, MB, Boyd went to Brandon Collegiate Institute, and had some great stories from his post-graduation days of playing keyboard and bass guitar in local bands. Boyd started work at CFB Shilo in 1975 and made a career of it, retiring 32 years later in 2007 as Requirements Officer, the first civilian to hold that position. Boyd had many fond memories of racing home from work every Friday to wife, Diane, and their boys, John and Dennis, waiting excitedly at the door to all head off together for weekends at Pelican Lake's Y-Point. In his early years at CFB Shilo, Boyd oversaw the greenhouses and used this experience to make a lifelong hobby of gardening. Many wonderful years were spent enjoying time with his family and dogs, and the hot summer days (the hotter the better to Boyd!) in his beautifully manicured yard. Boyd could often be found barbecuing up a feast and relaxing with an after-barbecue glass of port. Grandchildren Ellie & Jack meant the world to Boyd. They are his greatest accomplishments and the 15 years he was called "Grampa" were his proudest and most joy-filled years. Boyd is survived by his wife of 45 years, Diane (nee Clisby), sons John (Brianne) of Spruce Grove, AB and Dennis of Victoria, BC, beloved grandchildren Ellie and Jack, and Molly the Dog. He is also survived by sister Bonnie (Ron) Thiele of Red Deer, brother-in-law Ken (Debbie) Clisby of Brandon, MB, and sister-in-law Janice (Mike) Smith of Ninette, MB. Boyd was predeceased by his parents John and Helen, parents-in-law Frank and Jean Clisby, brother-in-law Don Clisby and his wife Linda, and by his dogs Kelly, Asta, Nico and Abby. Boyd's family would like to thank Dr. Visser, Dr. Riche and the staff at the Brandon Regional Health Centre Dialysis Unit for the expert care that Boyd received. At Boyd's request, a private family interment will take place in the coming months.
