Obituary of Shirley Mitchell

MITCHELL: Shirley Fulton Mitchell (nee Bent) passed away peacefully on May 30, 2020 at the age of 98. Mom was born April 8, 1922 in Lauder Manitoba and was the youngest of five girls. Artistic by nature, Mom created a multitude of cross stitch pieces, landscape drawings, sketches and paintings. She knit beautifully and donated many items to the hospital gift shop, where she volunteered for many hours. She also loved sports and music. Sports included tennis, curling and softball in her early years and she golfed into her 80's. Two more of her loves were Bingo and bowling. She loved a game of cards with family and friends at Lake Metigoshe and was also a faithful TV fan of the Bombers, Jets and Blue Jays. Mom's loving caregiver, Christina said: "I hope she's somewhere up in heaven, golfing, drinking a glass of wine with her hair freshly done and complaining about something." Many thanks to Christina and Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home in Brandon for their kind care over the past 4 years. She leaves to mourn her sons, Jim (Barb) Cannons and Dahl (Mary) Cannons; grandchildren, Jillian (Ryan), Kevin (Vicky), Steven (Adrienne) and David; great-grandsons, Finley and Henry; plus many nieces and one nephew. Cremation has taken place and in accordance with Shirley's wishes, there will be no formal memorial service held. Interment will take place at a later date at Lauder Cemetery.
