We met Mike in Germany in 1990 and became instant family, as one does when posted overseas, spending many a holiday and occasion together. My memories from both Germany and Edmonton with Mike always leave me smiling, he sure did love to make people laugh. He was my buddy, I always figured we would grow crotchety and old together, debating world issues (whether in person or on fb). My condolences to the family. Mike will be fondly remembered by all who knew him and greatly missed. I love you and miss you so much, Mikie. Rest in peace, my friend.
Love Tanja & Rod Pickrell

All of our staff will greatly miss Mike. We had the pleasure of being able to serve him and get to know him at our restaurant over the years. We could never have wished for a better customer. He always took the time to get to know the staff and truly cared what was happening in their lives. He was our biggest fan, always talking us up to anyone that would listen and bringing us new customers. For a small business like us his impact, much like his personality, was huge and we will be forever thankful for the wonderful reputation he helped us build over the years. We will certainly miss his friendly banter and charismatic charm, but we will count ourselves lucky for having had the opportunity to know him.
Cheers Mike!
Your friends at The Dock

While training to go to Bosnia in 1997, Mike says to me I dare you to go Hug James and call him Jamie. So I went over and gave James a great big hug and called him Jamie. James replies my name is James! Mike and all the men laughed and laughed. I will send you all the great big hugs in Heaven Mike. Working with you in Edmonton for many years I always enjoyed your flawless ability to access the situation and make the best out of it. I am sure you are up in heaven making your friends, relatives and God enjoy every minute, your humor and happiness are infectious. My condolences to my brothers and sisters in the military that miss him. To his parents and family know that he was a great man and will be remembered!!!
