Obituary of Jacob 'Jake' Esau

ESAU: Jacob Esau passed away at Dinsdale Personal Care Home on Tuesday, July 28, 2020. Jake was born on June 12, 1930; the only child of Sarah Neufeld Esau and William Esau, where he became part of a blended family of 11 children. Sarah had five children and was widowed and William had five children when he also was widowed. Being the youngest, he was able to have more schooling while also working on the farm. Jake wore a lot of hats in his life; as a young man in the 1950's, he was known as the Kemnay Muscle Man and became a Provincial Champion Wrestler. He worked for the Manitoba Highways Department and CPR on the road gang in Manitoba and Ontario. He also worked for Dominion Bridge as an iron worker for many years until he had a fall in 1976. Jake also loved fishing, hunting and trapping and had many stories to tell. Jake married Jean Zavislak, his wife of 34 years on September 13, 1986. He was predeceased by Jean on Saturday, June 20, 2020; his siblings: John, Bill, Mary, Nettie and Kay Esau and Aggy, Elizabeth, Neil, Helen and Abe Nuefeld. Jake is survived by his nephew Richard Esau of Kemnay and many more nieces and nephews in Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia. There will be no formal service as was their request. Many thanks to the staff at Dinsdale for their excellent care of Jake.
