Obituary of Gladys Luker
LUKER: Gladys passed away at Dinsdale Personal Care Home in her 95th year on December 30, 2009. Gladys leaves to mourn and cherish her memory her daughter Carole (Frank) Stouffer of Brandon, granddaughter Kerry and children Jessica and Katja of Brandon and Mark (Michelle) of St. Paul, Minnesota, niece Bev (Harvey) Ruehs, and nephews Bill (Diane) and Brian (Jackie) Burrell, Ken, Mel, Don and Murray McCallum. She was predeceased by her husband Art in November 2001, her parents Herb and Flora (Anderson) Parliament, sisters Alta Burrell and Jean McCallum. Gladys was born in Winnipeg on October 12, 1914. When she was a young child the family moved to Rapid City where she took her schooling. Gladys loved the outdoors and as a teenager she was an avid ballplayer and loved swimming in the river. She excelled at needlework. On New Years Eve 1938, she married Art Luker and they made their home in The Pas where their daughter was born. In 1942, the family moved to Flin Flon. In 1974, Art and Gladys moved to Brandon upon Art's retirement. Gladys loved being a homemaker and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took great interest in their activities. A memorial service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Monday, January 04, 2010 with Rev. David Cathcart of Knox United Church officiating. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Gladys may be made to a charity of choice.
