Obituary of William Mitchell

MITCHELL: William Frederick Mitchell (Mitch) of Brandon, MB. Born May 4, 1928, Douglas, MB. Loving husband of Norma, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on January 14, 2010 after fighting a long and courageous battle with cancer. He took all his schooling in Douglas, moved to Brandon and worked briefly with the Railway and then Massey Harris where he met Norma Tullis. They were married May 5, 1951. He also worked for Trader's Finance and was a Car Salesman. Before retiring, he spent his last years working with Warner Buck Accounting. Mitch played baseball for the Brandon Athletics in the 1950's. He took up golfing in 1951. He loved the game and played until his health prevented him. Mitch loved having coffee with friends at the Canad Inn and couples coffee on Saturday mornings. He also enjoyed weekly games of Bridge with friends. He will be sadly missed by his family. He is survived by his loving wife Norma of 58 years and four children: Karna (Wayne) Kingdon, Daryl (Denise) Mitchell, Geoff (Linda) Mitchell and Charlyn (Ron) Mitchell, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mitch is also survived by his brother Roy (Kathy) Mitchell, sister-in-law, Joyce Allen and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers. A Memorial Service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on January 19, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. with Mr. Lawrence McInnes, Brockie Donovan Funeral Celebrant, officiating. All in attendance were Honorary Pallbearers. Brother Roy Mitchell was the Urn Bearer at the graveside service at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Bill may be made to a charity of choice.
