McMANNIS: Alvaretta P. (Reta) McMannis passed away Sunday, February 14, 2010 at her residence at Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home. She was 89. Reta was born April 1, 1920 near Oak River, MB to Annie and William McMannis, second oldest of six daughters. In 1926, the family moved to a farm near Rivers, MB where Reta completed her schooling. When the war started she enlisted in the newly formed Women's Auxiliary Air Force, being the 38th recruit. After the war, she worked in offices in Vancouver, Regina, Winnipeg and Brandon, retiring in Brandon. She had a great interest in genealogy and spent much time researching her family tree as well as being active for many years in the Brandon Genealogical Society. She also volunteered her time with the Ladies Auxiliary of Brandon General Hospital and worked for a number of years in the Nearly New Shop. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her sister Lillias Westwood, brothers-in-law Ray Whitton, Bob Treloar, Everett Westwood and A.J. (Doug) Treloar and her niece Michele Treloar. She will be fondly remembered by her sisters Peggy (Alex) Brennand of Virden, Mattie Treloar, Beryl McMannis and Molly Treloar, all of Brandon, plus many cherished nieces and nephews. A family graveside service will be held at a later date.
