Obituary of Joyce Mary Holland (Hammonds)

HOLLAND: Joyce Mary Holland (Hammonds) September 29, 1917 to February 26th, 2010 Joyce passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 92. She will be sadly missed by her son Dave (Peggy) Holland and grandsons, John (Lauren), Jeff and Greg of Kenora, Ontario, brother Gary (Joan) Hammonds, nieces, Julie Szabo (Jim), Susan Harris (Bruce), Barb Saint (Mic), Joanne Roch (Norm) and families, as well as special friend Ruth English, who spent so much of her time being just that. Thanks from the family for your caring friendship and helping so much over the last couple of years. Joyce was predeceased by her husband Ernie, parents William and Doris, Connie Hammonds, her brother Jack (Molly) Hammonds and her sister Wendy (Dave) Reese. Joyce lived a full and giving life. She always had time for others. She was an avid golfer and curler and passed that passion on to her son who lovingly called her the "Kook of the Country Club". Family and friends were important to her and enjoyed travelling across Canada, England, and Australia to visit them. She enjoyed many friendships and enjoyed her bridge club and lunches out with the "girls". She was an accomplished artist and in her later years she shared her passion with many friends, attending art workshops in Hawaii, Alaska and Canada's East Coast. Her works are displayed on many a wall. She lives on in those works and in our memories. She was a long-time member with Ernie in (Kinsmen) Kinnettes, and K-40. Her faith was important to her. She was a member of St. Matthew's Cathedral in Brandon and a member of the ladies Mardi Club. Special thanks to the church and all who visited her when she was unable to attend. We would like to also thank the staff of the Valleyview Care Centre for the wonderful care she received over the last two years, while being a resident. A family graveside service will be held at a later date. If so desired, donations may be made in Joyce's honour to the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba, 710 Rosser Avenue, Unit #2, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 0K9. Thank you for the memories Granny, we will miss you.
