Obituary of Leo Joseph Demers

DEMERS: Leo Joseph Demers of Brandon, beloved husband of Marie and dear father of Roy, Carol and John, passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at the age of 95 years. Leo was born on February 6, 1915 at Oak Lake, Manitoba. He grew up on the farm areas of Oak Lake, Lenore and Virden and received his education in those districts. He moved to Brandon in 1949 and married Marie Huys on July 4, 1951. During his lifetime, Leo worked as a farmer, a Gunner in the army for the Canadian Military, and a bartender at the Cecil Hotel. He began work at the Department of National Defense in Shilo in October 1958 from which he retired in 1980. Leo enjoyed all sports especially baseball, hockey, curling, bowling, square dancing and playing cards. He also loved travelling and family gatherings. Leo is survived by his wife Marie; children Roy (Betty) Demers, Carol (Pat) Baldock, John (Suzanne) Demers; grandchildren Brent (Janice), Brad (Janna), Kyle and Justin; great-grandchildren Brooke and Jacob. He was predeceased by his parents Jean Baptiste Demers and Angeline (Gallant) and brothers Theodore and Joseph (Emile). Prayers will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Monday, April 19, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, 327 – 4th Street, on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Dominic Yuen as Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Leo may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, "Cancer Services Project", 150 McTavish Ave. East, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3.
