RUSHTON: Glen Temple Rushton passed away, peacefully in his sleep, early Thursday April 15th, 2010 at Hillcrest Personal Care Home, in Brandon.
Glen was born in Dobbington, Ontario to Edna (Temple) and Arthur Rushton on July 21, 1920. At age seven he moved to a farm outside Waskada, Manitoba with his parents and sister Anna.
In 1940-44, stationed in England, Glen was foreman of a Lancaster bomber ground crew and was always proud of his military service.
On July 3, 1947 he married teacher Joyce Ashley Kay. Their son Glen Alan (Al) arrived on May 28th, 1948 and daughter Bethany Kay on August 4th, 1951. In 1958, the family moved from the farm into the town of Waskada. In 1968, Glen and Joyce sold the farm and moved to Virden. Here, Glen did soil analysis for the Co-op, while Joyce taught Junior High.
Glen's grandchildren arrived: Lyndsey Darryl (to Beth) in 1971 and Melanie Echo (to Al) in 1972.
Through the 70s, 80s and 90s, Glen enjoyed many hobbies including: fishing, dancing, gardening and horse racing and held various positions on the boards of: the Royal Canadian Legion, Pool Elevator and the United Church.
In 2000, Glen and Joyce move to Riverheights Terrace in Brandon and were very happy. After several illnesses and strokes, Glen moved to Hillcrest Personal Care Home where he got caring attention.
Glen is survived by his beloved wife Joyce, son Alan and daughter Beth, grandchildren Melanie and Lyndsey as well as his sister Anna. Glen was a good man loved by all who knew him.
A private family service will be held to inter Glen's ashes in the Waskada Cemetery, later this fall. Donations may be made in Glen Rushton's name to the Royal Canadian Legion in Virden or to a charity of your choice.
