Obituary of Joseph Claude Careme

Carême: Joseph (Joe) Claude Carême, beloved husband of Stella and dear father of Darlene and Ron, passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Monday, May 10, 2010 at the age of 90 years. Joe was the eighth surviving child of 14 born to Raymond & Lucie (Marcq) Carême in Findlay, MB on June 22, 1919.Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and World War II Vet passed away on the Palliative Care floor at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon on May 10, 2010.He shall be sadly missed by his loving wife of 57 years - Stella (Pidustwa) Carême, daughter- Darlene Meadows, son – Ron & wife Lisa (Sorenson) Carême, grandchildren – Tannis Meadows, Ben Carême, Joshua Carême, Anna-Joy Carême, Paige Sorenson, Jade Sorenson, great-grandchildren – Brynn Meadows, Haidan Meadows, sister – Cecile Usunier of Brandon, MB., brother Edward & wife Marie (Debaar) Carême of Virden, MB, and numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents: Raymond & Lucie, brothers: Nick, Frank, John and Leon; sisters: Leontine Cancade, Marie Gregoire, Lucie Leech and Louise Deleau, three infant siblings, and several nephews and nieces. He attended school in Findlay and catechism in Grand Clairiere, MB. Joe served his country in World War II from 1939 until 1945. In 1953 he married his wife Stella in Garland, MB. He worked for Manitoba Hydro for 37 years retiring on his 65th birthday in 1984. He enjoyed visiting and playing cards with family and friends. He especially loved spending time with grand and great grandchildren. Joe's pastimes included working on his cars, constantly repairing or making things in his garage, fishing, duck hunting and cheering on the Montreal Canadiens. Joe was admitted to "Emergency" on February 23, 2010. Escorting him to his final destination at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on May 10, 2010 were Stella Carême, Darlene Meadows, Tannis Meadows, Ed Carême, Debbie Andrews and Irene Plaisir. Escorting him on May 14, 2010 to his final resting place in the Veterans' Section of the Brandon Cemetery, were active pallbearers: Ron Carême, Ben Carême, Joe Carême (Jr.), Paul Usunier, Raymond Usunier and Bruce Black. All in attendance were considered honorary pallbearers. Prayers were held on May 13, 2010 at Brockie Donovan Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial was held on May 14, 2010 at St. Augustines Roman Catholic Church in Brandon, MB. Although our world will be a lesser place without him he shall live on in our cherished memories!
