Obituary of Earl Allen

ALLEN: George "Earl". It is with deep sorrow that the family announces that Mr. George "Earl" Allen lost his courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Earl was the second of four sons born to Marjorie and Harry Allen in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia on January 27, 1950. Earl's father Harry was in the Armed Forces and Earl spent his early years moving from base to base until the family moved to CFB Shilo in 1963. In 1969/70 Earl joined the Air Force as a Firefighter, and it was at CFB Southport where he met and married his loving wife of 38 years, Merna. In August of 1975 Earl and his family moved to CFB Shilo to resume his career as a Firefighter until his early retirement in 2002. Earl spent many summers with his family camping and fishing at the Lake. He also looked forward to hunting in the fall. Earl could also fix anything that was broken. He loved taking on carpentry projects and fixing cars. Earl will be lovingly remembered by his wife Merna, son Gilbert (Tammy), two grandsons Caleb and Eric and granddaughter Hannah of Saskatoon, daughter Cairn (Sean) Mitchell of Calgary; three brothers Ken of Deloraine and daughters Tracy and Tanya (Kevin) Williamson, Gerald (Janice) and their son Aiden and daughter Kirstin (Ryan) O'Donnell, Gordon (Sabrina) and their daughter Nakita all of Brandon, sisters in law Mavis Joynt, Sharon (Bob) Taylor and their son Rob (Shelly), and four great nieces and 3 great nephews. He was predeceased by his mom Punky in 1998, dad Harry in 2002, mother in law Dorothy in 2004, father in law Verne Joynt in 2005 and sister in law Kathy Allen in 2008. A service of remembrance was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Friday, May 28, 2010 at 11:00 am. Interment will be held at a later date.
