Obituary of Wasyl (Bill) Bulat

BULAT: Wasyl (Bill) Bulat passed away peacefully with his children by his side on Friday, October 1, 2010. He will be greatly missed by his son Walter (Susan), daughter Lydia; his grandchildren Gregory, Kristopher, Stacey and Kathryn and his brother Andrew from the Ukraine. Wasyl was predeceased by his wife Kataryna and his brother Panko. Wasyl was born on January 15, 1921 in Jaroslaw, Ukraine. He spent the war years in a forced labor camp, where he met his future bride. They were married in 1945 and in 1947 they immigrated to Belgium where he worked in a coal mine. In 1950, they came to Canada settling in Brandon. There he worked in the construction industry mainly as a carpenter. He ended his career in 1986, retiring from the Civil Engineering department with the Department of National Defense. Wasyl was an active member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church and Men's Club until he moved to Winnipeg in 2005 to be with his children and grandchildren. His hobbies included fishing, riding his bike and taking long walks. He especially enjoyed his annual fishing trips with his son, grandson and good friends. He was extremely proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. Special thanks to all the staff of Holy Family Nursing Home, Unit 5A for their care and support. A time of visitation will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Michael Tkachuk of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church officiating. Interment will follow at Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wasyl's name to the CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or a charity of your choice. Vichnaya Pamyat
