Arthur Ernest Tyerman

Obituary of Arthur Ernest Tyerman

Tyerman, Arthur (Art) Ernest; March 15, 1922 - October 12, 2010. He was born in Dauphin, Manitoba, spending most of his growing years near Tisdale, Saskatchewan on the farm, leaving the prairies for the first time to join the forces and fight in WW2. Upon his return, with his Scottish bride Catherine Stewart, Art took his first step into the trucking industry and never looked back. He bought a truck and started hauling logs in the bush of Northern Saskatchewan, where, for many winters, Catherine (Scottie) joined him as the camp cook. Art was a 'trucker' (transport driver) all of his working life; he was fortunate to find his passion and truly enjoyed his work. He met lots of people and travelled many miles over his lifetime, while 'Scottie' held the fort at home raising their three children, Gordon, Margaret, and Sheila. He and 'Scottie' had a good life, both challenging and rewarding. At his retirement they moved back to the country, to an acreage in Kemnay where he continued to tinker with vehicles and equipment and watch the semis travelling down the highway. He said his best TV show was his view of the highway out his front window. Art is predeceased by his wife Catherine, son Gordon, daughter-in-law Donna, brothers Ralph and Raymond, his Father Jack and Mother Hilda. He will be greatly missed by his brother Lawrence, sister Audrey (Murray), sister-in-law Frieda, daughters Margaret Tyerman and Sheila Reynolds (Barry), grandchildren Jason, Amber, Christen, Alissa, and Bradley, his 10 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Art will be remembered for his capacity as 'Mr. Fixit' and finding a use for everything. He will also be remembered for his stories, of the war, of the prairies in the early days, and of the many adventures he had throughout his life. If a song was dedicated to Art it might be one of Frank Sinatra's tunes … 'I Did it My Way'. That he did and he did it well. A graveside service will be held at the Brandon Cemetery on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. with Arlene Robertson officiating. Donations in memory of Art may be made to a charity of choice.
