Obituary of Margaret "Margie" Taylor

Taylor: Margaret Taylor (née Makinson) passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Margaret was born the oldest of six siblings on March 11, 1936 in Winnipeg, to William and Reba Makinson. Margaret grew up in Austin, MB, where she completed her schooling and upon graduating attended Normal School obtaining her teacher's degree. In 1962, she married Vern Taylor. Vern and Marg resided in Brandon until the mid 1970's. They both decided to try a different career path and they purchased a store in Glenboro. They then returned to Brandon and Marg started teaching in Rivers where she continued to teach until her retirement in 1990. Marg influenced many students during her 35 year career. Marg retired from teaching but she always kept herself busy. Marg enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews. The yard kept her occupied in the summer; cutting grass, watering flowers and tending to her vegetable garden - she loved to garden. In the winter, she spent many hours baking, cooking and crocheting. In her early years, she enjoyed curling and in her retirement years televised curling was the highlight of her winter. Many enjoyable hours were spent playing bingo with her good friend Elaine Commons. Participating in afternoon card playing introduced her to another special group of friends. Marg was predeceased by her parents, her husband Vern and brother Bill Makinson. She will be lovingly missed by brother Campbell (Lorraine) Makinson, sister Carol (Glen) Bray, sister Shirley McGregor and brother Murray (Karen) Makinson and sister-in-law Deanna Makinson. Marg is also survived by many nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at Rivers United Church on November 24, 2010.
