Obituary of William John Turner

TURNER: William John Turner (May 11, 1916–December 8, 2010). Mr. William Turner of Brandon, passed away peacefully with family by his side at Hillcrest Personal Care Home on Thursday, December 8, 2010 at the age of 94 years. Left to mourn Bill's passing are his beloved wife of 69 years, Mayme (née Cooper) Turner, son Bill (Shirley) Turner of Brandon and daughter Ethel Teetaert of Steinbach. Bill is also survived by his grandchildren Chris (Shari) Teetaert and their children, Zachary, Bronson, Keegan, Spencer, Arabella and Xavier; Kimberlee (Kirk) Dreher and their children Mitchell, Hannah and Cassidy; Michelle (Dean) Hardy and their children Madison, Joshua and Noah; Greg (Cindy) Turner and their children Grayson and Logan, as well as several nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his parents Bill and Edith Turner and sisters Frances Barrett and Winnie Tackaberry, and son-in-law Charles Teetaert. Bill was born at Butler, MB. His family moved to Brandon when he was twelve years old. He joined the Air force and was enlisted from 1941 to 1945. After the war, Bill joined the staff at the Brandon Mental Hospital. Bill enjoyed 33 years as a plumber at the hospital until his retirement in 1979. For many years Bill could be seen travelling to work on his trusty Whizzer motorbike. Bill and Mayme lived in their own home for 66 years before moving to Victoria Landing in 2007. Bill had many hobbies, including square dancing, woodworking and carpentry. He also enjoyed many happy summers at the cabin at Sandy Lake, as well as many trips to the United States, across Canada and abroad. Bill was proud to be a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to all family, friends, and ca regivers and a special thanks to the staff at Hillcrest Personal Care Home. A memorial service will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Shannon McCarthy of Central United Church officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill's fellow Mason's from the Tweed No. 13-Brandon No. 19 Lodge, and pallbearers will be Chris Teetaert, Zachary Teetaert, Greg Turner, Dean Hardy, Bruce Hawkins and John Grudinski. A private family interment will take place prior to the service at Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friend's desire, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 4B-457-9th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 1K2.
