Obituary of Helen "Bobbie" Oddy

ODDY: Helen (Bobbie) Oddy, aged 94, passed away on March 13, 2011 at the Dinsdale Personal Care Home in Brandon. Bobbie was born on December 29, 1916 in Harrogate, England. She worked as a seamstress for a local department store, and enjoyed an active life style, which included cycling 100 km to the coast to attend dances on summer weekends. She served in the RAF Signals Corps during World War II. She met a Canadian Solider, Victor Gosman, married in 1945, and came to Canada as a war bride in 1946. The couple settled in Dauphin and later moved to Swan River and Brandon. Bobbie was predeceased by Victor in 1986, and her second husband Walter Oddy of Bath, England in 1992. She is survived by her half-sister, Margaret Lambie of Falkirk, Scotland, and her sons David (Janet) of Fort Frances, ON, and Charles "Chuck" Gosman and Donna of Brandon. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Greg (Tammy), Scott (Stacy), Darcy (Natalie), Stacy (Rej), Angela (Nim), Vicki (Gus), David (Dee) and Amanda (Josh,) eleven great grandchildren, and numerous relatives and friends from England. The family would like to acknowledge the professional and caring attention of the staff at Dinsdale Personal Care Home. Cremation has taken place and a family memorial service will be held at a later date. If so desired, in-memoriam donations may be made to Dinsdale Personal Care Home, 510 – 6th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 3N9 or the Salvation Army, 9 Princess Avenue E., Brandon, MB R7A 1R8.
