Obituary of Minnie Asthore "Thory" Anderson

ANDERSON: Thory (Minnie Asthore) passed away Thursday, March 24, 2011 in her 101st year. Thory was a resident at Fairview for the last five years, having lived at the Winnipeg House for the previous 30 years. Thory was predeceased by her husband Al in 1983 and a granddaughter in 1972. Surviving is their only daughter, Thorie and husband Jim, their sons, Kyle (Alana) and Kevin (Kayla), great grandchildren Sydney and Colton and Calcie respectively. Thory's life was one to be admired, spanning ten decades, consisting of two World Wars, the Roaring Twenties and the Depression of the Thirties. Times were tough, but she was always a hardworking, yet fashionable lady. Thory and Al married in 1943, and their daughter, Thorie, arrived four years later. Thory worked in ladies fashion stores and also at Robinsons. Al was a mechanic at Cobb Motors and the two lead a full life in the town of Melita, until they moved to Brandon in 1972. With the arrival of their first grandson Kyle in 1974, they became doting grandparents. Thory and Al were caretakers at the Rosser Towers, until Al became ill and they moved to Winnipeg House. Thory's pastimes were 5-pin bowling, watching N.H.L hockey and baseball. Kevin and his Grannie spent lots of time keeping scores and stats to both games and discussing them in depth. Her grandsons were obviously the apple of her eye. Most of Thory's friends have predeceased her, but there are those who will continue to remember and miss her, Jean Sterling, Melba Murray, her close friend Lyn and especially the Christmas Carolers. The family would like to extend a thanks to those at Fairview who showed Thory that extra special attention she so deserved, Rhonda, her "cousin" Anderson, Kayla, and Michelle to name some…also thanks to the others we missed who gave her that special T.L.C. A private graveside service for Thory and Al will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, a donation in memory of Thory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 727B-10th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4G7 .
