Obituary of Margaret Isabel Greaves

Margaret Isabel (née Lang) Greaves passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Valleyview Care Centre at the age of 88 years. She was born on December 1, 1922 at Coulter, MB to Frank and Ethel (née Murray) Lang, the fifth oldest in a family of nine. She attended Coulter and Waskada schools and graduated from the Registered Nursing Program at the Brandon General Hospital in May 1944. Margaret married Gerald (Jerry) Greaves of Brandon, at the Lyleton United Church on August 5, 1946. She nursed for several years, until she was involved in an accident with an ambulance in Brandon. She was a member of the B.G.H. Nurses Alumni, Brandon Lioness Club and a member of Naomi No. 6 Rebekah Lodge from 1991 until 2008. She was also a volunteer for The Red Cross Blood Donor Clinic and at the Brandon General Hospital. She enjoyed ice skating, knitting, crocheting, reading, dancing, singing, and the many lunches with her sisters, brothers and families. She also enjoyed the years she lived at Hobbs Manor and the many friends she had there, and participated in most of the activities. She moved to Valleyview Care Centre in November 2010. She is survived by sisters; Dorothy Downey of Melita and Lorraine Richardson of Brandon; brothers Andy (Ila) and Reg (Jean) Lang of Souris; sister-in-law Ruby Greaves; plus many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Jerry on February 11, 2002; parents Frank and Ethel Lang; sister Jean Downey; brothers Francis (Sonny) and Murray Lang in action in the Second World War, and brother Everett Lang in infancy; brothers-in-law Louis and Leighton Downey, Jim Greaves and Russell Fedoruk; mother-in-law Emma Greaves; sister-in-law Vivienne Fedoruk and nephew Francis Downey. The Funeral Service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Laird Russell-Yearwood of Central United Church officiating. Pallbearers will be nieces and nephews, Donna Cameron, Frank Lang, Garry Lang, Allan Downey, Ron Richardson and Jane Fedoruk. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, 150 McTavish Ave. East, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3 or a charity of your choice.
