Mary Hudey

Obituary of Mary Hudey

Mary Hudey (née Bandusiak) of Brandon, passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at the age of 85 years. Mary was born to Stephen and Tekla (née Zomleduck) Bandusiak on December 15, 1925 and raised in Brandon. Mom received her education at David Livingstone School, and spent her youth caring for her sister and two brothers, as well as helping out with the animals. After the war ended, she met John Hudey and they were married on July 2, 1949. She never tired of telling the story of how they built a raft to get out of their home during the flood of 1959. Mary worked in the hospitality industry all through her life, and she especially enjoyed working at North Hill Inn, The Suburban Restaurant and Kokonas. She met a lot of people and remained friends with them as the years went by. She did a lot of memory lane visits and wished every one of them well. Mary never lost faith and was a devoted Catholic and a member, and past president, of the Ukrainian National Women's League. She enjoyed all church events and excelled in organizing and bringing things together, so fun was had by all. She was a very elegant lady, who took great pride in her appearance and this was reflected in the way she presented herself in public, and in her home. One would always be in awe of her beautiful yard, filled with many flowers, shrubs and statues. She loved being outdoors and "moving things around" just because their might be a spot that would be just a little better. Mom lost the love of her life, John on September 27, 1969. She was left with four children to raise, Gary, Lynda, Steven and Darcey. She devoted her entire life to them, making sure they were always within reach. She was always there to lend a hand, listen to our troubles, help us with a master plan, comfort us, and encourage our growth and accomplishments. She was very proud of all her children. Mary is survived by son, Gary Hudey, daughter Lynda (Wayne) Baxter, son Steve (Linda) Hudey, son Darcey (Sandy) Hudey; grandchildren, John, Jennifer, Wendy, Cindy, Kristena, Chad and Shane; three great-grandchildren, David, Joshuwa and Jeremy; and two great-great-grandchildren, Kaillee and Jacob. She is also survived by sister, Annie Wielgosz and family, and brother Gene (Phyllis) Bandusiak and family; as well as nephews, nieces and all of John's family. Mary was predeceased by her husband John in 1969; by her father Stephen in 1967, mother Tekla in 1986, brother John in 1996, and brother-in-law, Charles Wielgosz in 1988. Divine Liturgy Service was held at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church on Saturday, July 30, 2011 with Father Michael Tkachuk officiating. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Pallbearers were: son-in-law Wayne Baxter, grandson John Hudey, brother-in-law Steve Hudey, step-grandson Chad Medlicott, nephew Reynold Rouire and great-nephew Kevin Rouire. Cross bearer was granddaughter Jennifer Hudey. All of Mom's friends and extended family are considered honorary pallbearers. Donations in memory of Mary may be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200-17th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 7M6. One of Mom's Favorite quotes was: "What will be, will be. We have no control over what will happen to us." Rest in Peace Mom, We Love You.
