Obituary of Ramona Caye Adamski

ADAMSKI On November 12, 2011, Ramona Caye Adamski peacefully passed away and ended her hard fought battle with Cancer and Alzheimer's disease. Mom was born on July 26, 1928 in MacGregor, MB to Gordon and Marjorie Atkins. The Atkins family relocated to Carberry, MB early in Mom's life. Even from a tender age, Mom was a hard worker, delivering milk from a hand pulled wagon to help support the family through the difficult depression years. As a young teenage girl, Mom left the nest and moved to McCreary and was employed as a live in Nanny to a set of young twins. Time passed and at the age of 15, Mom was ready to venture out once again and she moved to the big city of Brandon, MB and soon found work at the Brandon Mental Health Centre in the kitchens. While working at BMHC, Mom recognized her true calling and successfully completed the set of Psychiatric Nurses courses and began working in the wards with the patients. It was during this time, while she was living in the Nurses residence, that she met and fell in love with her lifelong partner, Tom. Their courtship involved skating at the hospital rink, dances at the Palladium and the Esquire, and fishing (Mom would always catch more fish despite only using a willow stick outfitted with some fishing line)! Mom and Dad made it official and tied the knot on October 1, 1949 at St. Hedwig's Church in Brandon. Soon after they welcomed their first child, Marjorie and then their only son, Tom. While raising two toddlers, Mom and Dad also raised the roof and built the one and only family home. Mom was always so proud of the home they built together which was always full of friends, good food and fun. Later in life, Mom and Dad brought home their last child, Julie. Mom's first passion was her family. She had endless patience for her children - always letting us be involved in whatever she was doing, even if that meant it took her ten times longer to complete her task. Family time was spent going to the Drive-In in our pj's, taking Sunday drives after Church, spending time on the Kaminski farm in Dauphin or just staying home with the extensive Adamski clan. Her second love was her garden, which encompassed the entire yard. Mom always knew we could never eat everything she planted but that was not a concern because she always made sure to pass on fresh veggies to those who did not have them. As much as Mom loved her home, she also loved to travel. There was many a family trip to Hawaii or Disney or a road trip in the station wagon with Mom making sandwiches and handing out cookies from the cargo area. Mom eventually retired from BMHC after a total of 47 years of service, but retirement never slowed her down. She continued to live life to the fullest chasing after her youngest grandchildren well into her late seventies. Mom you gave the warmest hugs and the softest kisses and we miss you dearly. Mom is survived by her husband, of 62 years, Tom, daughter Marjorie (Leo) Bojarski, son Tom (Louise) and youngest daughter, Julie (Darren) Hughes. Grandchildren, Dennis Bojarski, Paula (Clayton) Canart, Aiden and Noah Hughes. Her brothers Jim, Melvin, Morris and sister, Emily Coutu. She was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Marjorie Atkins, sister Sylvia Espey and father and mother-in-law, Peter and Rose Adamski. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Dominic Yuen as Celebrant. Pallbearers were Michael Adamski, Mark Adamski, Dennis Bojarski, Darren Hughes, Clayton Canart and Aiden Hughes. Interment has taken place at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Mom may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 4B-457-9th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 1K2.
